Intermittent fasting is not a diet – it is a timed approach to eating. Fasting is a natural part of the human cycle. We are unconsciously fasting sometimes. Hopefully, these tips will help with your personal journey.

14-INTERMITTENT FASTING HABITS/TIPS FOR BEGINNERS:

Tip#1: Identify your personal goals; (weight loss, improved health).

Tip#2: Pick the fasting method: Time-restricted eating, or Alternate-day fasting.

Tip#3: Pick the time (Start with a realistic time, don’t set yourself up for failure)

16:8 Method of Intermittent Fasting – This allows for a fast lasting 16-hours per day, with foods eaten during the remaining 8-hours.

20:4 Method of Intermittent Fasting – Allows fasting for a full 20-hours, with 4-hours window to eat.

Tip#4: Commit to a time: Usually 30-days or longer to see whether it works.

Tip#5: To reach better health and weight loss it is a good idea to eat a balanced diet with, vegetables, healthy fruits, nuts, high fiber, and protein during the window of eating periods.

Tip#6: Stay well hydrated, and drink lots of water. No calorie beverages.

Tip#7: Find a fasting committed friend.

Tip#8: Make fasting a habit…and clear out your pantry and refrigerator of processed foods/snacks. Make dinner your last meal at either 6:30 pm or 7 pm.

Tip#9: Delay breakfast…That’s right – delay breakfast. (If you must have something in the early morning, drink black coffee or tea…no creamer, no sugar).

Tip#10: Avoid eating a late snack. Clean up your kitchen and put everything away.

Tip#11: Take a walk after dinner preferably outside or on your treadmill.

Tip#12: Brush your teeth after dinner, this will signal no more eating/snacking.

Tip#13: Put your fasting habits on your schedule including your mobile device as reminders to build habits.

Tip#14: PREP and PLAN healthy, nutritious meals in advance. (If your schedule is incredibly busy, set aside time on the weekend or during the week). Use BPA containers to store your prepared foods.

Habit definition: A habit is a routine of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously. Example habits: Taking a morning walk or involuntarily getting up early from the force of habit.
