NAFLD/Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease – – – is too much fat stored in liver cells.

NAFLD/Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is largely a dietary disease, and therefore, the treatment involves fixing the DIET.

Causes of NAFLD/Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease:

1. Overweight or obese, particularly when fat is concentrated in the abdomen.

2. Insulin resistance, in which your cells don’t take up sugar in response to the hormone insulin.

3. High blood sugar (hyperglycemia), indicating prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.

4. High levels of fats, particularly triglycerides, in the blood.

Symptoms of NAFLD/Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease?

  • Abdominal pain or a feeling of fullness in the upper right side of the abdomen (belly).
  • Nausea, loss of appetite, or weight loss.
  • Yellowish skin and whites of the eyes (jaundice).
  • Enlarged spleen
  • Red palms
  • Sleep apnea
  • Swollen abdomen and legs (edema).
  • Extreme tiredness or mental confusion.
  • Weakness.

PREVENTION – reduce the risk of NAFLD/Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

  1. Choose a healthy DIET, (Plant Based diet of fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats).
  2. Cut back on sugar.
  3. Lose weight – if you’re overweight.
  4. Supplements: vitamins D, E, C, and B.
  5. Be ACTIVE – EXERCISE – (walk or go to the gym). But first, get your OKAY to exercise from your doctor.
